Useful Kitesurfing tips from the Stagnone in Marsala in the days of Coronavirus

20/03/2020

In such a difficult period, we are all going through moments of despair and we are called to make little and big sacrifices for everyone’s health.
In the world of Kitesurfing and among the kiters the freedom of movement is fundamental, it sets us apart! In fact, being at the sea with a sail, following the wind, makes the concept very clear, and I think it is one of the sensations that comes closest to the “concept of freedom”.

For these reasons, I believe it is really complicated for us kiters not to practice kitesurfing but, despite the Italian Prime Ministerial Decree of 4 March 2020 consents the practice of outdoor sports, my advice in this regard is to abstain to do it. One reason above all why I ask you to hang up the sail is that in the unfortunate event of an injury, which is far from unlikely while kiting, we risk to overload the hospitals more than they already are for much more important issues.

So with this article I want to try to give you some useful advice on the world of kitesurfing, in order to optimize the most of your free time you are spending at home, and I want to explore issues that are often underestimated and – why not, I will try to make you improve even if you are not at the sea.

First of all, in these situations, as well as when there is no wind, a very important thing you can do is to check all your equipment, starting from checking the right trim of the bar (for more information read this article) and generally everything concerns the care of the equipment (read this article).

Another tip I want to give you is to visit the websites of kite manufacturers (Slingshot, North, Naish, Crazyfly, Ozone, Core, Rrd, Fone, etc …) and study the different models of sails, their features and performance. I assure you that it is very interesting and it helps you to understand which Kite would be right for you.

Another useful thing you can do is to see some tutorials on Youtube. In this way you will be able to visualize the next steps well and perhaps to understand what mistakes you made the last time you went to sea.

Finally, you can use this time to better study meteorology. It is very useful to have a good preparation in this field as our sport depends on the wind.

You may find more advice about it in one of my articles, for example this one.
